How many times have you heard people say, “I’m a perfectionist”?

I’ve heard it a ton.  I’ve even said it myself.

It’s a good thing, right?

Not so fast.

Most people think it’s a positive.  It must mean they’re uncompromising and have high standards.

What’s wrong with that?

Here’s what’s wrong…

Perfectionism is for scared people.

If you seek perfection, you don’t want anyone to criticize you.  You don’t want to acknowledge a flaw.

You know what else?

You’ll never put things out into the world; you’ll never take action.

How does perfection sound now?

One of my mentors has a saying, “Done is better than perfect”.  Whatever you’re working on, B- quality is ok.  It allows you to move on to the next activity and gets you closer to your goal.

So what’s a perfectionist to do?

Two choices.

You can either accept that you’re not perfect or accept that you’re already perfect, just the way you are!
