I know you want to feel only the good stuff – the love, the joy, the inspiration – but here’s the deal.

All your feelings need to be felt.

We’re taught not to feel the bad ones – the fear, the anger, the shame.

But you know what happens when you don’t feel those too?

They hang around.

And get stronger.

And you do some destructive stuff to avoid feeling them – you overdrink, overeat, overwork.  You get the picture.

Or you do some benign stuff to distract – watch TV, go on Facebook or even something that appears constructive – like working out.

But that’s not feeling either.

Feelings are nothing but vibrations in your body.

When you take a minute to just feel them, they pass.

And you can move on.

If you’re feeling a negative emotion, take a time out.

Write about it.

Describe it – is it hard or soft?  What color is it?  Is it moving fast or slow?

Where is it sitting in your body?

Ask yourself why you’re feeling it.

Allow the pain, the fear, the anxiety – whatever emotion it is – to come.

Feelings are meant to be felt. That’s their job.

Give yourself the space to really feel the difficult emotions and your life will be a lot easier.
