Thanksgiving has come and gone but it’s not too late to offer a different perspective on gratitude.
No, I’m not going to ask you to write down what you’re thankful for.
What I AM going to ask you is this:
What’s your gratitude ratio?
That’s the amount of time spent being grateful vs. time spent complaining.
The two are opposites.
Is it 1:4? 1:10? 1:50?!
Think about it. How much time do you spend complaining each day?
I do it plenty, especially now during COVID.
It’s certainly a good start to be thankful one day a year but is that all we’re capable of?
What do you think your life would look like if you found one thing a week to be grateful for?
How ‘bout one thing a day?
Wanna increase your ratio?
Spend more time helping others.
Volunteering is a great way to boost your gratitude ratio.
The gift I get when I volunteer is perspective. I see how hard others have it and it makes me appreciate how fortunate I am.
Keep the gratitude ratio in mind next time you find yourself complaining.
Is there something more positive – something you’re fortunate to have – you can devote your mental energy toward?
